Thanksgiving Series: “Sabbath Creates Grateful Community”zafyn] wGojfbL ;dfh lgdf{0f u5{ We will pause the series on James, to focus on the season’s theme of Thanksgiving. Sabbath is an underlying theme for us as a church, and going through it at least once in a year is necessary. Sabbath was intended to create grateful people and a community. The whole purpose of Creation and Law was to ensure people who come before God with gratitude (ritualistically, habitually, routinely) so as to ensure life centered around God, His presence and mission in the world. This series will focus on how Sabbath (worship and rest at least once a week) was intended to bring people back into their created focus- living before God for the sake of their neighbors. This focus is necessary, because the world- our lives, families, society, nation and world in its default culture tends to run away from God-centered lives to self-centered, consumer driven culture.Thanksgiving is a harvest season, where the fruit of our labors (fields or factories, friends and family) are signs of God’s provision. World and everything in it is so much more than what we could’ve created for ourselves or control with our knowledge and resources. This season is a reminder that God is in control and we are grateful recipients; and as grateful recipients we live with our hands open in response to enjoy, but also to share and give towards what makes our neighbors and others in our reach to flourish.
