Goddesses: Mami Wata

Mami Wata is an aquatic goddess who reigns over the Atlantic Ocean. Because of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, she’s celebrated not only throughout much of Africa, but within the diaspora of the Caribbean and the Americas. She is both seductive and nurturing. Protective, yet dangerous. Just like the ocean, she contains multitudes.
