Sister Ina Spence

Sister Ina Spence was born in Trelawny, Jamaica. She moved to Manchester, England in her late teens and worked as a nurse and senior midwife for over 40 years, delivering hundreds of babies. Sister Spence was recorded by Rachel Ross, one of the mothers she took wonderful care of, during her career.

Windrush Stories is a collection of full-length interviews from members of 'the Windrush Generation'. People who became known as the Windrush Generation began arriving in the UK from the Caribbean nations in the 1940s. They travelled to embark on a new life helping rebuild the 'Mother Country' during the post-war period.
