As the NHS continues to brace itself for the impact of coronavirus on both its resources and staff, we welcome Matt Walton, Junior Doctor, Filmmaker and WEM Conference Speaker, to discuss the psychological impacts of being on the frontline during this pandemic - the good, the bad and the harsh realities. Alongside WEM Trauma Lead Eoin Walker, they discuss the unprecedented changes and the effects this is having on day-to-day practise - from wearing PPE on shift, to the challenges of de-briefing in time-pressured situations and the changing nature of triage and treatment. In addition to this, they consider the impact that the increased demand is having on individual and team morale, as the harsh reality hits that colleagues and friends will likely be affected by this virus. Matt counters this with the positives - considering the moments of incredible teamwork and learning, the shared grit and the inspirational courage shown by healthcare staff on a daily basis. As always, we love your feedback - please comment, like and follow!
