Wellington City Councillor calls for mandatory sprinklers following Loafers Lodge fire

The Loafers Lodge fire could bring change to the building code. At least six people died in the Wellington fire, with another 11 unaccounted for. The lodge had a Building Warrant of Fitness issued this March - and no concerns were raised by the independent inspector. Built in 1971, it didn't have sprinklers - and wasn't required to. Wellington City Councillor Ray Chung says council will be pushing the Government to make sprinklers mandatory for all accommodation outlets.
