Pharmacist with a Holistic Mindset on Risks of Antibiotics and Commonly Used Drugs, and How to Prevent Disease from the Inside Out: Meg Kilcup of A Whole Health Life

Meg is a doctor of pharmacy and director of safety, but she considers herself a FARMacist as well. She is a wife and a mom to three boys! She works as a pharmacist for patient safety in a hospital system, but she believes that prevention over pills is key. Meg takes a holistic approach to health and believes in finding the root cause of disease and that food is medicine. Her expertise is in antibiotics and their effects on gut health. We discuss different classes of drugs, including anti-anxiety and anti-depression medications, opioids, ADHD medicines, frequently used antibiotics, cholesterol drugs, and PPIs. Meg shares with us about black box warnings and defines informed consent and how to discuss prescriptions with your doctor. We also share how we can do our own research at home and how to be a better medical advocate for yourself and your family. Meg explained more about antibiotic resistance and its consequences, how much of our body is made up of bacteria, and why antibiotics are still in such heavy use. She tells us what actually happens to our gut after one round of antibiotics, and why we should save antibiotic use for emergencies whenever possible. Our hope with this episode is to bring awareness to the effects of medications, and to promote health and immunity naturally.   Meg’s Information: Instagram @awholehealthlife Blog: A Whole Health Life
