Be Kind - Jana James Toler Going to high school, one of the things I was “worried” about what whether or not if I had the “nicest” pair of shoes or what would my peers would think of the clothes I was wearing. Or if I was “good enough” to sit at the “cool” kids table. We sometimes live in a consumer world where the only thing we can think about is “me, me, me”. We often take for granted where our next meal is going to come from, if we are blessed enough to have family that is able to provide. Jana James Toler who has been teaching at Harmony Grove High School for 20 years tells us how hard it has been for the students as well as the teachers to adjust during this past couple of years. As a young teacher one thing that stuck with her was what Mr. Gibs her first principal had said to her, “treat them like you want your own kids to be treated”. So when school was shut down her mother like instincts, thought of those kids who need the two meals the school provides. As she tells us the importance of being kind to those around us because we may never know what they are going through. That is why she started the food pantry and providing backpacks and school supplies to the kids in need. So she could be an example to her own children as well as teaching everyone the importance of helping out those who are in need. Jana James Toler is not only a teacher but also an entrepreneur where she shares with us that her inner competitiveness has been one of the key factors of getting her business started. As well as what keeps her motivated and the secrete to why her business is so successful.
