Today’s guest Anupama Hoskere, is the founder of Dhaatu, an organization that works to revive the traditional art form of puppetry, and winner of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Puppetry. A Masters in Computers with a fellowship in puppetry, she had a childhood growing up with dolls & influenced by art. Her passion for traditions, texts and scriptures, and good fortune to be guided by veterans like MR Ranganath Rao who taught her to create puppets.  Anupama is an awesome storyteller soaked in everything Indian! The intention of initiating ‘Dhaatu’ for Anupama and her husband Vidyashankar Hoskere is to “fill the gap for introducing traditional arts,” with captivating stories told through epics and mythological accounts of inspiring personalities. Anupama, scripts the storyline, creates the puppets, and directs her puppet shows.  This is part 1 of a 2 part series where she shares her childhood, her love & the importance of art in shaping an individual, what is being Indian, & the need to understand our culture and value it!
