Did you know… humans spend nearly half our waking hours daydreaming? In fact, your mind is probably wandering as you read these words and listening to this episode. So, how can you use mind-wandering to our advantage as copywriters? In this episode’s article (linked below), researchers developed a novel method to survey individuals on their current activity and state of mind-wandering. Once they mapped out the results (figure 1), they discovered three major findings. First, they found that mind wandering occurred in 46.9% of the sample population. Second, mind wandering was often the cause (not the consequence) of unhappiness. And third, that internal thoughts affected individuals’ moods more so than their external activities. The shocking results of this study reveal the frequency of daydreaming in the human brain, including the brain of our prospects! If mind-wandering is somewhat inevitable, we as copywriters need solutions and strategies to make minds wander where we want them to. Listen to the full episode to learn the important strategies we can use to overcome the “wandering mind” phenomenon.
