This week The PMO Podcast™ Featured Story presents, "Process Configuration vs. Methodology Development", presented by Mark Perry (about Mark), host of The PMO Podcast™. Every PMO has a project management methodology, some have multiple methodologies. While some organizations do a very good job with their methodologies, many organizations find methodologies fine in theory but often lacking in practice. One approach and alternative to methodology development that more and more PMOs are adopting is process configuration. Process configuration is an approach to defining, documenting, rendering, using, maintaining, and improving the best practices of the PMO. It is an extension upon traditional methodology development and policy documentation based approaches. Process configuration is a framework approach that provides a consistent view of the processes of the PMO, a consistent level of detail, and integration into the process of the tools, information, and organization domain knowledge that support the integrity of the process and of the project efforts. The PMO Podcast™ Points Memo presents, “Night out on the town." Do you have an award program for your project managers? Have you tried Night Out On The Town Awards? Not every organization is right for this kind of award. It is not a lot of money and in some organizations where other recognition programs are in place, such an award may not be necessary. But if your PMO lacks a certain level of morale, team well being, and behavior; take a moment to think about things that you can do to influence the environment and facilitate the results you want. Sometimes, it is the small things we do that have a large effect. The PMO Podcast™ Mailbag answers a listener question about good books on web project management.
