EP 9: STEREOTYPES and STRONG WOMEN: Writing Historical Fiction

Today, we’ll be having Tete.Depunk and Helevorn on this show!  They will be having a conversation about worldbuilding, whether that’s in historical fiction or in fantasy works. Tete and Helevorn will also be talking about how to avoid stereotypes in works, for example, how to avoid stereotypical portrayals of Vikings, Cossacks, and other “types,” since it can be easy to fall into literary shorthand when writing about these kinds of characters.    Tete.Depunk is the author of a fantasy work, “Gerda and the Frost Lord” as well as two historical works about Cossacks, “The White Crow Rides a Black Horse” (which is about Gleb, the 17-18th century Cossack) and “70 Fierce Years” (which is about Andrei, Gleb’s descendent from early 20th century Soviet Union).   Tete's Instagram: @tete.depunk  Her deviantArt: https://www.deviantart.com/tete-depunk   Helevorn is the author of a series of historical works set in the Viking Age, such as the short novel “Lucky Wolf”, her larger project, “Sons of Disobedience”, as well as a series of short stories, all linked together through common themes and characters. In recent times, Vikings have entered the mainstream in films or video games.
