Blish was born in 1921 in East Orange, New Jersey. While he was in high school, he published a sci-fi fanzine, The Planeteer. Blish became a member of the Futurian Science Fiction Society in New York City and became close friends with members Damon Knight and C. M. Kornbluth.He wrote just over 90 short stories and 9 novels.
