Born in Brooklyn in 1927, Slesar launched his 21 year career as a copywriter at the age of 17, right out of high school at the prestigious advertising agency Young and Rubicam. Some say Slesar coined the term “coffee break”.Slesar experienced a lot of success in his lifetime. He wrote hundreds of short stories, over 40 in 1957 alone. Alfred Hitchcock hired him to write for Alfred Hitchcock Presents. In 1974, he won an Emmy Award as the head writer for CBS Daytime's The Edge of Night where he was the head writer for 16 years.
