Apple/Android, Nintendo/Sega, Xbox/Playstation; over the years there have been several format wars, but today, we look back on the one battle to rule them all: VHS vs Beta. Going into the 80s, Sony thought Betamax should be the industry standard. JVC believed they had a superior (and more consumer-friendly) version with VHS, and thus commenced a billion-dollar battle between two formats to take control of the machine that forever changed the way we consumed media.
