Although Taito ultimately followed up the original with some more formulaic, direct type sequels, Rainbow Islands tells the real and true Story of Bubble Bobble 2. Leon, Karl and guest Sadie Flayeh - along with correspondents from the Cane and Rinse community - muse on a more innocent time, when the deliriously cute and colourful Rainbow Islands was widely available on then-contemporary systems and a beloved part of the late 80s/early 90s gaming zeitgeist.
