#384 Breaking Gender Stereotypes in the Butchery Trade

In honor of International Women's Day, we take a deep dive into the changing face of the butchery trade, with a specific focus on the role of women in the industry. Traditionally seen as a male-dominated field, more and more women are joining the meat industry and challenging the stereotypical notion of butchers as jolly men in white shirts and striped aprons. Today, women make up about 25% of the industry and are bringing new perspectives and approaches to the craft.  We discuss the various challenges faced by women in the industry and how they are overcoming them, as well as the opportunities that are emerging for women in the meat trade.   We also examine the reinvention of the chuck by the beef industry in the early 2000s, and how new cuts such as the Denver steak, flat iron steak, and petite tender are expanding the possibilities for butchers and meat lovers alike.  Join us on this special episode as we celebrate the achievements of women in the butchery trade and explore the future of meat in a more inclusive and diverse industry.
