Restore Trust in the National Trust. Grassroots Movement to Fix A Politicised Institution

New Culture Forum - Ein Podcast von New Culture Forum - Samstags

The National Trust, a beloved national institution tasked with preserving Britain's heritage, has become mired in controversy in recent years. Join the National Trust by 26 August and you can help change the organisation's misguided and increasingly political direction. You will have a vote at the NT's upcoming AGM. Recent activities by the leadership at the National Trust have been subject of debates in both Houses of Parliament, and even more worryingly, an investigation by the Charities Commission. Increasingly, its leadership have steered the National Trust away from its core mission and into the highly contentious culture wars. This has led to huge numbers of members and volunteers deserting an institution many have supported for decades. Restore Trust is a pressure group of concerned members who are seeking to return the National Trust to its founding objectives. Zewditu Gebreyohanes is director of Restore Trust, executive editor of History Reclaimed and was formerly head of the History Matters unit at Policy Exchange. She joins us on the #SWYSI sofa to discuss the crisis at the heart of the National Trust and how ordinary members who join up by August 26 can help play a role in the Trust's future direction.
