The second segment of the series revolves around the history of the Qur’an and its purpose. Shaykh Fadhlalla presents a brief sketch of the unfolding of divine knowledge as it was understood by the peoples of the Middle East and the continuity of the prophetic consciousness, culminating in the Prophet Muhammad. The Qur’an as the book of Guidance and Reality, and the nature of divine revelation and inspiration is explored. Shaykh Fadhlalla presents aspects of Qur’anic sciences with specific reference to the historical context of its compilation and its development into a bound manuscript. This talk concludes with the fundamental message of the Qur’an, that is: Divine unity, the reality of prophethood and the universal return to essence.
