Gateways to Enlightenment : Episode 2 – Intention ‘Niyyah’

The second in the series talk in this series begins by a short over view of the previous path way: Hijra – departure, severance from that which is not conducive. There are many stages and degrees of departure and turning away along the arc of human evolvement. This naturally links with the nature of intention and action which is the focus of this discourse: right intention ‘Niyyah’ and good action. Like hijra, niyyah occurs at numerous different levels along the path of true transformation. There are numerous levels of indications relevant to purified intention in the Prophetic teaching. The prophetic profile is presented as the living model of complete harmony in intention, action and character. The living tablet of the revealed knowledges. The essential nature of intention is also explored, relevant to the interplay of opposites, and some of the subtle elements in the meeting of intention action within the human being. All human beings end up in their ultimate destiny according to their niyyah. The importance of the essential virtues of honesty and sincerity that ally purified intention are discussed in various presentations: Prophetic lore, Sufi traditions and Qur’anic verses are also related in presenting the fine edges of total self-awareness and inner accountability in which these qualities serve as the keys to true abandonment and birth of a steady state of wholesomeness and inner expansiveness.
