In this episode, accomplished art historian Alice Sullivan gives a taste of her field and delves into the visual history of Eastern Europe.Alice Isabella Sullivan holds a BA from Bowdoin College, an MA in art history from Williams College, and completed her PhD at the University of Michigan. She is a historian of medieval art, architecture, and visual culture, specializing in the artistic production of Eastern Europe and the Byzantine-Slavic cultural spheres between the 14th and 16th centuries. Among her peer-reviewed academic publications, she has award-winning articles, and recently a co-edited book published with Brill. In 2018, Alice co-founded the initiative titled North of Byzantium (www.northofbyzantium.org) – which explores the rich medieval history, art, and culture of the northern frontiers of the Byzantine Empire in Eastern Europe.
