Richard Nixon is often recalled as a historic foreign policy president, but his consequential domestic policy initiatives have been obscured amid the wreckage of the Watergate scandals. In fact, Nixon’s policies—from health care to welfare to the environment—reverberate through subsequent administrations, into the present day.    In this episode of the Serve to Lead Podcast, author John Roy Price illuminates this neglected historical avenue in discussion of his important new book, The Last Liberal Republican: An Insider’s Guide to Nixon’s Surprising Social Policy.  Price places Nixon firmly in the liberal Republican tradition of President Theodore Roosevelt, New York governor Thomas E. Dewey, and President Dwight Eisenhower. He includes fascinating vignettes of a time when politics was a serious practice and the nation was experiencing breakneck, often turbulent change. John Roy Price is the retired president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh. During the first Nixon administration he was special assistant to the president of the United States and executive secretary of the Council for Urban Affairs and the Council for Rural Affairs. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Livingston, Montana.   Mr. Price can be reached through the University Press of Kansas.   Image: John Roy Price
