This coming November marks 50 years since it was first dived by the ‘Geelong Skindivers’. Rex discusses some of the first vessels and the first divers to explore this fascinating site. • Dr Elodie Camprasse (Deakin University) brings us the latest observations on the much anticipated arrival of the giant spider crabs and her team’s research into the annual migration phenomenon. • Katie Griffin tells us all about ‘A Cleaner Coast’, a Surf Coast based community organisation that does incredible work keeping our glorious beaches on the Surf Coast clean. We’ll talk about ‘A Cleaner Coast’, and everything you need to know about next weekend’s event where they’ll tackle clean-ups at three beach locations (Jan Juc, Torquay and Bells), fun times afterwards, and how you can get involved. • And we’ll speak with Dr David Bourne from Townsville’s James Cook University about a wonderful partnership initiative with Earthwatch Australia, where in July, you (yes you!) can join scientists in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef in a citizen science project that sets to develop best practice methods for coral recovery.
