Gifts of the Holy Spirit - Episode 2 - What are the ‘gifts’ of the Spirit? with Guest Damian Stayne Recently we celebrated in our churches the Feast of Pentecost and the giving of the Spirit.   Saint Paul in 1Corthians writes that it is the Spirit of God who distributes to the people of God gifts which are the source of the Church’s vitality and mission (1Cor. 12:11. See also Rom. 12: 6-8, 1Cor. 12: 4-10, 28-30, Eph. 4:11-12, 1Pet. 4: 10-12).  These gifts are the supernatural graces for service, and they are given freely and abundantly to all the people of God.  ‘Gifts of the Spirit’ is a new series which will answer questions such as what the gifts are, what they are for, and how we can use them! In the first of the series, we explored the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity, co-eternal and consubstantial with the Father and Son.  We experience God through the Spirit as comforter and as advocate.  In the second programme I am joined by Damian Stayne to explore the different gifts, what they do, and how we can access them.  In the third programme of the series, we will explore the experience of the gifts in the New Testament and the Early Church.  In the fourth in the series, we will explore the gifts of the Spirit in the life of the Saints.  The twentieth century has witnessed a new awakening of the Spirit and this fresh outpouring has been supported and encouraged by all the Pope’s of the twentieth century and by the Second Vatican Council.  In the final programme we will explore what is meant by the ‘Baptism in the Spirit’ and the difference this can make in our lives.
