Does society place too much emphasis on romantic relationships?

Valentines' day promotes coupledom and the social assumption that everyone prospers with an exclusively romantic monogamous long-term relationship and that unpartnered people are lonely and unhappy.  That’s the view of Karen Sugrue, Lecturer in Sociology and Psychotherapist who spoke to Newstalk Breakfast this morning.
