S6 Ep6: Lee Mckenzie "I can fall back on, I'm good at my job"

Monday Mile with Aimee Fuller - Ein Podcast von Monday Mile - By Aimee Fuller - Montags

Today on Monday Mile we head to Holland Park for a stroll with a lady who has been a pioneer in the Pitlane, becoming the first woman to take on the main anchor role in F1 on British TV - it is Lee McKenzie! She’s worked across some of the most prestigious events in sport, Olympics , Paralympics , Wimbledon and the Rugby World Cup . She’s the consummate professional, one of the greats and delivers when it really counts even under pressure and streaming live into our living rooms.  We have a great conversation about what makes a good broadcaster.  We discuss whether journalism really deserves the paraphrase "dirty word" and as to whether broadcasters are out there to “nail someone to the masts”.  We also chat about how F1 is considered to be an elite profession, and how the athlete's attitudes towards the sport has influenced Lee's professionalism towards her job as a broadcaster - "success and failure is measured by a thousandth of a second" . We discuss her relationship with the outdoors and the balance it brings, and how she juggles life on the road, broadcasting across multisport events and adapting to different time zones and prepping for one event whilst she’s still mid-broadcast at another. We also talk about the importance of being “good” at the job, and not focusing on what other people might think, and whether it’s true if you put everything into something it leaves no room for criticism. However, Lee does open up about trolling and the effects that can have on her relationship with body image. It’s a great listen, and as someone who is a role model to me, I really enjoyed this walk and talk with Lee. Aimee will be probing for answers from the full spectrum of routines; the early birds who have finely tuned Monday mornings, to the late risers who struggle to get up before 11am. How do elite athletes find the motivation to kick start their week come rain or shine? How do celebrities deliver no matter what the time of day? What knowledge can they pass on? Each episode drops on a Monday morning as a bitesize piece of content and weekly dose of motivation - right when you need it. Aimee will meet each of her guests for a walk and a chat and over the course of the mile she will find out how they cope on a Monday morning - their idiosyncrasies, breakfast routines, alarm noises - and how, when they need to, find the motivation to kick-on through the week. Sharing some of Britain's greatest athletes, entrepreneurs, doctors, authors and broadcasters ’ secrets on self-motivation, candid thoughts on what they struggle with and a sideways look at some of their more unusual morning habits.
