The LIVER: Altruistic Ketogenesis

This podcast describes the unique ability of the liver to synthesize ketone bodies in the mitochondria from Acetyl CoA during fasting. The ketone bodies thus produced can provide an alternative energy source to multiple peripheral tissue including the brain, but excluding the liver.
