How is your time like a bucket? Take advantage of your 15-30 minutes in between. Julia Black – a graduate student athlete in the MS Business program and on the cross country team - joins Mays Mastercast and shares how she pushed through even amidst doubt brought on by injury and the pandemic. She had asked herself: why save a 30 minute assignment for 9 p.m. when she could get to sleep sooner and be a better athlete and student. Uncovering that gem, she reworked her day to take advantage of gaps. Julia shares, “ Adjust your day to fit the goals you have for your day.” Will I ever get back in shape? Comparison through and after injury almost brought her down. Though a great teammate, she focused on herself and on what she was doing in order to sustain. She talks about noticing her and her teammates – without the normal socializing times due to the pandemic – were drowning in trivial things. And with that, she was walking through mental health challenges while at the same time running a personal best each and every weekend. She had to wait for her love for the sport to return, even if it meant not training as long as her teammates. She took ownership of her running. What will you take ownership of?
