Saturday was the first playoff game for the Lakers in their home building in front of a sold-out crowd in a decade. And man alive, did those fans get plenty to cheer about. The Lakers finished the first quarter against the Memphis Grizzlies ahead 35-9, and were really never threatened after that, going on to win Game 3 111-101, taking a 2-1 series lead. Anthony Davis had 31 on the offensive side, but was even more impactful on the defensive end. 17 rebounds, three blocks, two steals, countless shots altered. LeBron James decisively won his battle against Dillon Brooks, scoring 25 points on 10-20 shooting, while Brooks was 3-13 before getting ejected for punching King James in his Crown Jewels. Did the Lakers get a little loose at times during the game? Sure. They spent three quarters in that weird place where teams with big leads struggle to find the balance between hitting knockout blows and playing conservatively enough to bleed clock and avoid rally-inducing mistakes. But they never let Memphis threaten the result, and only let the lead get into single digits for one possession, with about 90 seconds remaining. All in all, it was about as smooth of sailing as a 7 vs. 2 playoff game gets. Now it's on to Monday, where the Lakers can hold home court advantage and take a commanding series lead with a win.
