BONUS SHOW: Lakers, Anthony Davis Agree to 3 Year, $186 Million Contract Extension
Locked On Lakers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Lakers - Ein Podcast von Locked On Podcast Network, Andy and Brian Kamenetzky
Friday was the first day the Lakers could offer Anthony Davis a contract extension under CBA rules. It's been widely reported that both parties shared a mutual interest in getting that extension done sooner rather than later. Well, sooner rather than later turned out to mean Day 1. The Lakers and Davis agreed Friday to a 3-year, $186 million max extension that keeps him under contract with the Lakers for the next five seasons, and locks in a star for the team that extends past the (presumed) end of the LeBron James Era. The Lakers get the security and certainty of having Davis under contract, Davis gets a bleep ton of money and the security of knowing that injuries over the next couple of seasons won't impact the proverbial bag. So does everybody win here? In theory, Davis could have made himself a little more money (at the least, by signing a deal after next season that would have been one year, and about $70 million, more. On the other hand, he gets hurt. A lot. And you just never know. But is it too risky for the Lakers? What other option might they have had? We break it down.
