Preparing For The First Day of School

If your child has some anxiety about separating, it can be super helpful for them to see you connecting with the teacher.  I would invite the parent to hold their child and sit down with me for tea. When the child witnesses the safety and trust that is present between parent and teacher, they can more easily trust themselves.  This can be more important than pressuring the child to open up to the teacher and accept them. Also, if you have rarely left your child, then some practice with family members or good friends is a good idea before school.  Practice your goodbye routine over and over at grandma’s house then when you do it on the first day, it will actually feel supportive.
