049. Hormones, menopause, cancer, and sugar: Megan

Megan Lifto  is a nurse who's had her own health issues, including having her ovaries removed. She knew that the decrease in estrogen would affect her metabolism, and indeed her weight went up 60lbs, mostly around her belly, even though she was still active. With the extra weight, she started to have joint pain when she bent down, as well as in her hands.  Some hormone therapy (low dose estrogen) helped her lose 10lbs right away. What does this have to do with sugar?Well, the hormone fluctuations that Megan was experiencing also brought with them intense sugar cravings. She used ice cream or donuts to calm her pain and give her comfort... but the cravings kept coming. She was experiencing energy crashes and disturbed sleep, and her weight loss stalled. Listen to Megan's tips for what she did and what you can do if you're suffering from hormonal swings, menopause, cancer or other related health issues.
