Dickens (1859) Darnay remains in prison, but Dr. Mannette tells Lucy that if she stands in a certain spot outside the prison during certain hours, that her husband may see her; having access to a small window. Lucie goes every day to this spot, and brings little Lucie, weather permitting.  While there, she sees a wood cutter about his work. He speaks to her every day, and motions to the prison but says it's none of his business. Lucie sees Madame DeFarge for a moment, and hears in the background the sound of the guillotine at work, and sees the people involved in a fierce dance she describes as devilry.
