2022 Crain-Maling Foundation CSO Young Artists Competition

In our continuing coverage of recent concerto competitions, Introductions plays all four finalists from the 2022 Crain-Maling Foundation CSO Young Artists Competition. This year, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Negaunee Music Institute opened the competition up to piano soloists, and all four finalists performed their chosen concerto movement with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and conductor Andrew Grams on Saturday March 19. Two of the four have appeared on Introductions before: Noah Kim gave a solo recital in March 2021, and Kimiko Darcy appeared as a finalist in the Emilio de Rosario Piano Concerto Competition in July 2017. Additionally, Shivshankar Prasad has applied to perform on Introductions and has been offered a live recital appearance in the autumn of 2022; and for winning this competition, Noah Kim has been offered a second solo recital before he finishes high school. Om Podcasten

Introductions is WFMT’s weekly Saturday morning program that features talented pre-college classical musicians in the Chicago area. Soloists and chamber ensembles perform live in WFMT’s Levin Performance Studio. Large ensembles, including orchestras, choirs, and bands, are recorded at their home venues and broadcast at later dates. The program also features youth music competition winners. While many students who appear on Introductions pursue other careers, some have gone on to study music at some of the most prestigious music schools around the world and pursue careers as professional musicians.
