109: The Problem Isn't Prioritization

We kicked off this episode with book picks. Eric is fascinated by the incredible Dolly Parton and her best-selling book with James Patterson, Run Rose Run. Nayla is loving The House of Special Purpose by John Boyne which is about the Romanov family (no, not Natasha’s origin story)- highly recommended   Getting into today’s topic, we discuss a listener/client question about “HOW to prioritize?” and the mini-epidemic we’ve noticed around our worries about not being able to manage our responsibilities and being too busy. The goal of prioritizing isn’t to create a better list. We question the assumptions and biases that lead us to overcommit, how the “post-it-note” method/massive to-do list might be a casual disregard of our time, and the critical questions to ask yourself to add more awareness of what is and what should be on the “list”.   To learn more about the ideas and resources discussed in this episode, us and our work, and to join our mailing list, visit the show notes.   You can continue the conversation with us through our new, free, online Inside Job Podcast Community, which you can find here: https://insidejobthecommunity.mn.co/feed      Inside Job is brought to you by Nayla Bahri and Eric Johnson. We’re Nayla Bahri and Eric Johnson, and we love to talk about the intersection of life and work. Why? Most of us will spend more hours of our life working than doing anything else. The relationship we have with work, and the way we make meaning of our time and experience there, serves as a great platform to explore how we show up to the rest of our lives: relationships, family and parenting, our health, our hobbies and interests, and our general attitude towards the human experience. With insights and observations pulled from our leadership and career coaching, teaching and consulting work, as well as the most relevant research across fields, we’ll talk about the ideas that really impact how you experience work – and your life – and actionable strategies to make work work for you, from the inside out.
