heliumTALK #9: Hyland Mather (english edition)

heliumTALK - das Kunstgespräch - Ein Podcast von Jörg Heikhaus, Melvin Heikhaus

Welcome to our second heliumTALK podcast in english! Artist and gallerist Hyland Mather came to Hamburg to take part in the group show The Jaunt at the heliumcowboy gallery. Hyland founded the Andenken Gallery in Denver in 1997, and has shown many artist who since have become international superstars, such as Shepard Fairey, Faile or Evan Hecox, to name a few. In 2008 he moved to Amsterdam and relocated his life and the gallery to the Netherlands, where Andenken still goes strong. At the same time he has always pursued his own art, and so we also talk about the difficulties and the beauty of playing on both ends of the court at the same time. While in town, Hyland Mather created a wall sculpture at the Überquell Brewpup from found wood, string and paint. We’d like to say thank you to Basch Tomaszewski from Urbanskillz for finding this fine location and for organizing this project together with Melvin from heliumcowboy, and of course a big shoutout to Patrick Rüther from Überquell Brauwerkstätten for supporting this one in particular and the arts in general.
