028. You Only Get One Body

Heaven & Healing Podcast - Ein Podcast von Heaven & Healing Podcast

You only get one body. It is your home - it is the place where you experience your entire life from; it is the vessel that carries you, keeps you safe, and keeps you alive. In this episode, I talk about how sacred of an understanding that is, and how truly important it is to take care of the body. There is so much talk about the “public health crisis” right now, and my take on that is to look at it from the angle of the individual. How well are we actually taking care of ourselves? How much focus is there of our nutritional needs, of our cardiovascular health, of our vitamin intake, etc.? How often are we drinking water and getting adequate sleep? How aware are we of our hormonal health, our digestive health, or our immune health? The true public health crisis is the overall negligence of our own body - we abuse it with alcohol, processed foods, refined sugar, excess carbohydrates, consistent use of medications and do not nourish ourselves nearly enough with water, whole foods, vitamins, and mindful movement. It needs to start within. Before we make others responsible for our health, let’s first hold ourselves in radical accountability of our own.  Another talking point of this episode is how we are a society obsessed with body positivity and not nearly as obsessed with health positivity. As being formerly obese myself, I do get raw in my truth - how loving my fat body in a bikini would have never given me the ability to walk up a flight of stairs without losing my breath, and how I really think we’ve gotten super far off track with the #bodypositivity movement at the cost of our overall health and wellness. When does the narrative shift from loving your aesthetic, regardless of how it looks, to actually deploying acts of love for the self through showing up in consistent nutrition and exercise? Because the truth is, you cannot make the most out of this life if you are not making the most out of the body you are living in. You live a life you deserve by first knowing you are deserving of it, and that comes from showing up in behaviors reflective of that worth, such as being committed to eating well and moving often.
