FactSet Senior Earnings Analyst John Butters provides an analysis of the third quarter earnings season for the S&P 500. Overall, 27% of the companies in the S&P 500 have reported actual results for Q3 2020 to date, with 84% reporting actual EPS above estimates. For the third quarter, the S&P 500 is reporting a blended year-over-year decline in earnings of -16.5%. At the sector level, nine of the 11 sectors in the index are reporting a year-over-year decline in earnings, led by the Energy sector.
