Brazil’s Industrial Productivity Slows After Five Years of Growth

In 2012, more than 43 industries in Brazil recorded negative productivity. Lifting and handling equipment, electrical lamps and production of basic nonferrous metals performed the worst. The poor performance came directly after 123 industries recorded positive growth over 2008-2012. Brazil’s lack of investments in machinery, tight bureaucracy and poor education system are hindering the country from competing in the global industrial environment.
