Engineering Success interviews Douglas McCormick the Chief Executive of WYG. Douglas has over 30 years experience in the engineering and construction industries and has been CEO at WYG for 18 months having previously worked as the Chief Executive of Sweett Group and the Managing Director of Rail at Atkins (UK). Douglas is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and holds an MSc in Construction Management and a BSc in Quantity Surveying. In addition, he was until recently a Commissioner for the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, and is both a Fellow and non-executive Director of the Institute for Collaborative Working. We spend a fantastic couple of hours with Douglas at WYG Angel Court Office in London which was a great setting to speak with such an inspirational leader. We hear how Douglas first started his career as a Quantity Surveyor and what influences he had early in his journey. Douglas tells us what challenges he faces every week and how he keeps himself and everyone at WYG motivated. A leader who leads by example, Douglas tells us why he thinks there is a skills shortage in engineering and construction and what we can do to promote our industry and challenge the next generation to become involved.
