El 1986, Paul Simon passava un mal moment. "Heart and bones", el seu �ltim disc, havia venut poc, s'havia tornat a barallar per en�sim cop amb Art Garfunkel i s'estava divorciant de Carrie Fisher. La m�sica d'�xit dels 80 tampoc acompanyava el seu estil, m�s intimista i reflexiu.
