BBC The One Show: Talking To Your Kids About Race with Ashley John Baptiste

Dope Black Dads Podcast - Ein Podcast von Dope Black Dads Podcast

When is the right time to talk to your children about race? What's the right age? How do you have these conversations in a way your kids understand? In light of the death of George Floyd it is clear that we are now bringing our children into a different world. Everyone is talking about race, everyone is talking about Black Lives Matter and as black parents it's always been our responsibility to talk to our kids to understand how they will be perceived in a world that sees their skin colour first and foremostly.   Until the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement in recent months, a lot of white people had only just realized that they too need to discuss race with their kids so that they can grow up to be anti-racist and advocate for black people. In this episode, Marvyn, Donald and Marvin are joined by Ashley John Baptiste from the One Show to discuss how they navigate these conversations, how they would like white parents to have these conversations and how they teach their children to love the skin that they're in.     Tune into BBC One at 7pm to see the full Dope Black Dads segment on The One Show.
