In this conversation Nikki, Mike, and Oteil discuss why Nikki knew that it was the right decision to leave school at Berklee to gig on her own, her move to New York City and the excitement of auditioning for Beyoncé, the new Nth Power album (which features Kofi Burbridge on 10 of it’s 11 tracks) and much more. You’ll also hear the three dive deep on religion and spirituality as Nikki discusses ways that she incorporates elements of her religious upbringing into her present life, the culture shock that Nikki experienced when she moved from Maryland to North Carolina to Massachusetts, and an incredible story about the music of The Nth Power literally saving a man’s life. Aside from sharing the stage with some of our favorite artists including Kofi Burbridge, Maceo Parker, Eric Krasno, Pharoahe Monch, and Dumpstaphunk, Nikki is best known for co-founding The Nth Power, who have amazed fans of all genres from gospel to alternative with their dynamic soundscapes and eclectic blend of styles. Nikki grew up playing the drums in church and that foundation has led her to become a powerhouse percussionist, and a master manipulator of rhythm.
