How does masculinity turn toxic? What does it actually mean to be a man? Is the remarkable appeal of a figure like Andrew Tate - the social media influencer - the product of a male malaise in liberal democracies? His TikTok videos have been condemned as deeply misogynistic but have been viewed billions of times. He has tens of millions of followers globally - most of them male, many of them very young.
