Derry Girls used ‘comedy for quite serious messages’

Last night saw the end of the critically acclaimed Channel 4 series Derry Girls by Lisa McGee. It brought to British TV the history of modern Ireland through the eyes of school girls growing up in the 1990s. The third series has been hailed a triumph with the final episode being set during the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.
