Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows- Not Just Old Biddies

This week we’re discussing Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal, narrated by Meera Syal. The story follows a young Punjabi feminist called Nikki, who takes what she believes to be a creative writing job at her local temple. She quickly learns that these women are illiterate and have their own way of learning to read and write. The story then picks up and becomes about loneliness, desire and sexuality within the group. - These are women who have spent their lives in the shadows of fathers, brothers and husbands, being dutiful, raising children and going to temple, but whose inner lives are as rich and fruitful as their untold stories.
