His book, Searching for Sappho: The Lost Songs and World of the First Woman Poet helps guide us through the fascinating life, poems and world of this archaic Greek songstress. Philip Freeman is a Professor of Humanities at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University in Classical Philology and Celtic Languages and Literatures and has written over a dozen books on the ancient world.
